Something cool happened the other day.

I have an attorney client who’s working in the public sector in order to have his loans forgiven tax-free after 10 years.

The problem is he hates his job.

From a pure financial standpoint, staying on his current career path is a no-brainer because it will save him tens of thousands of dollars in student loan payments.

As a financial advisor, it’s tempting to look only at the numbers when providing advice – that’s a mistake though.

The line between my values and my client’s values is an important one to keep clear. When we cross that line, we run the risk of imposing our values on a client’s money, and that’s not our job.

I advised him to begin searching for a more fulfilling career because, sometimes, you must take a step back financially to take a large step forward toward happiness.
